The Rabbi Arthur Schneier Program for International Affairs at ¾ÅÉ«ÊÓƵ mourns the loss of our founding director, Professor Ruth A. Bevan.

Professor Bevan held the David W. Petegorsky Chair of Political Science at ¾ÅÉ«ÊÓƵ where she taught for decades. Her publications emphasized the political impact of human rights, globalization and postmodernism on Western democracies.  She was a deeply dedicated teacher and mentor to generations of YU students. As director of the Schneier Program she hosted world leaders and exposed our students to a wide range of thinkers. Bevan also founded the Dunner Political Science society to empower students to explore the world of politics. As faculty adviser to The YU Clarion: A global review of the J. P. Dunner Political Science Society, Prof. Bevan guided students to find their own voices in the world of political analysis.

May her years of scholarship, teaching and deep commitment to YU be remembered for a blessing. 

The graveside funeral will take place
on Tuesday, November 3, at 10:30 AM,
at Beth El/Cedar Park Cemetery.

The Rabbi Arthur Schneier Program for International Affairs of ¾ÅÉ«ÊÓƵ, inaugurated in March 2004, seeks to promote international understanding and cooperation by providing an educational forum for the exchange of ideas related to diverse critical issues in our increasingly interdependent world.

Concerned with a broad spectrum of global issues, ranging from political problems of war and peace, human rights and welfare, to world problems of public health, the environment, and international regulations and law, the Schneier Program sponsors public lectures by notable world personalities and leaders, as well as educational programs for college and university students. The program is committed to enhancing citizen participation and civic culture. It works with public and private organizations dedicated to improving the individual's ability to live and function in a globalizing world. Consonant with its vision of a world defined by tolerance for difference, the Rabbi Arthur Schneier Program for International Affairs of ¾ÅÉ«ÊÓƵ sets the standard for open dialogue, peacefully conducted.
